ADE 2009: Purple Music Night Party

Hey folks!
It's only 2 days til the Party of the Year, the Purple Music Night Party in Amsterdam, hold at the Amsterdam Dance Event. I'm already really excited, soo many great DJs and producers will be there to play some funky and soulful music :)
Look out for me there, and if you go there, why not drop me a line before?

Ok, meanwhile i had some troubles with my laptop i'm using for DJing, everything is fine now again, and i've selected already many tracks for the next mixes.
From now on there will be at least two Soulful House Mixes per month. So make sure you check back regularly or grab the RSS feed.

Party review:
I just came back from the party and must say: THIS WAS GREAT!

The party in the main room went off when Anthony Romeno was behind the decks, after him played DJ Meme and the crowd went mad. Both played, of course, some of their tracks but this was what the people wanted.

After them the Master himself, Jamie Lewis played some great great stuff. At about 4 a.m. there were just about 100 people left and a bunch of 50 people stayed until the end with Alfredo Azzetto.

I hadn't much time to check the small room, but i guess Panevino did a good job there too. Oh yeah and the Souldynamic duo from italy was there too with some friends, thanks for the promo cd, guys ;)
Big shouts also to DJ Soulmate from Summerfondue! See you next year.

The Latin Hustle Vol. 3

At first i gotta say sorry for the delay, it took me some more weeks as i thought until i got back to mixing and could finish this mix.
But i can asure you, the waiting time was worth it! For the last time this year i'm bringing you a new Latin-House Mix.

In Volume 3 we have this time some cheesy and uplifting tunes at the same time. Again, this mix brings you some very rare tracks you might not know, like "Latin Quarter" from Lenny Fontana - it just came out as a promo in 2003.

Another hot track here is the Full Intention production "Awa Band" from 2001 with their track "Tudo Lindo", the follow up of their big hit "Timba".
But one of the highlights for me is Boris Dlugoschs Remix of Edesio's "Blen Blen" from 1999. A massive party track!

I just wanted to give you some updates as i'm back from my vacation ...

• I uploaded some new music videos from back in the days to YouTube, check out my channel...

Party-Review: Headache statt HedKandi

Eigentlich wollte ich dieses mal gar kein so schlechtes Résumé ziehen, aber als ich dann grad um kurz nach 2 Uhr mit Pfeifen auf den Ohren aus dem Club kam, war das schon ein Abfuck! Aber von Anfang an:

Die erste Stunde hab ich verpasst, ich war erst gegen kurz vor 23 Uhr im Club, es war relativ leer, vielleicht ein Dutzend Gäste. Dafür war die Musik erstaunlich gut und bis Mitternacht liefen richtig funky und soulful Musik, viele der etwa auf 100 Leute angewachsenen Gäste tanzten oder groovten mit.

Kurz nach Mitternacht das selbe Spiel wie letztes Mal: Stilwechsel. Ich versteh' ja, dass HedKandi viele Genres abdeckt, aber ich bin nun mal kein Fan von 7-Minuten Liedern mit einem oder zwei sich ständig wiederholenden Samples. Also gings knapp 'ne Stunde mit diesem dark&boring Sound weiter, bis dann von 1 bis 2 Uhr etwas kommerziellere Musik lief, viele bekannte Sachen. Dazu gabs 'ne Mini-Performance am Saxophon und an den Congas. Alles schon wesentlich besser gesehen, aber ok, der Gedanke zählt.

Hier mal die Pros und Kontras im Überblick:

• Mindestens 18€! 13€ Eintritt, 1€ Garderobe und 4€ Mindestverzehr die vorher bei der Veranstaltungs-Werbung nirgendwo kommuniziert wurden. Auch auf der Karte kein Hinweis, ebenso wenig vom Personal. Ein kleiner Zettel beim Bezahlen und irgendwo am Eingang soll also reichen, denken sich die Herren. (Ich will nicht kleinlich sein, aber wieso steht man nicht dazu und kommuniziert das vernünftig?)
  
• Kein stilles Wasser! Wie beim letzten Mal gabs kein stilles Wasser im Club und an Säften nur O-Saft. Klingt wie bei Mäces - nicht nach einem Club der seinen Gästen was bieten will. Nicht jeder kann oder will Alkohol trinken!
• Zu laute Musik! Wenn man nach 3h im Club mit Pfeifen auf den Ohren rausgeht (dabei stand ich nicht mal mitten auf der Tanzfläche, wo es wesentlich lauter ist) stimmt was nicht. Die Anlage war oft derart übersteuert, sowas hab ich selten gesehen, vor allem war es
• mit einigen Hundert Leuten deutlich leerer als letztes Mal. Wohl zu wenig Werbung gemacht diesmal.
• Den anderen Raum hab ich mir nicht angeschaut, aber es gab einen.
• Live Saxophon und Percussions waren nett gemeint aber schlecht umgesetzt.

Im Grunde eher Negativ-Werbung fürs Label. Ich zumindest werde nur noch zu Parties mit den DJs hingehen, deren Sound mir gefällt.

Revisited House Chapter 5 - Funkin' Fantasies

The music in the past has been funky. Extremely funky! You sure remember the music that came up in the late 90s with lots of funky disco-filtered stuff. Well, in Chapter 5 we don't go back so far, but all tracks are at least five years old.

I did a selection of some great Chicago House and French Filter-House tracks. This mix is for all of you who like the up-tempo funky and melodic sound that never gets boring and keeps you busy on the floor.

The Rhythm Masters (Robert Chetcuti and Steve Mac) did so many great remixes in the late 90s, they inspired a lot of musicians with their distinctive disco-filtered sound. One of their last Singles was "The Underground" with amazing vocals, this one still burns on the floor. As you see, Fedde Le Grand did some funky stuff too in his early days.
