Remix of Hope's Matters "Deputy of Love"

Hope's Matters, an Electro-House Band of 6 members, based in Berlin, released a tribute to the great 1979 Disco Classic "Deputy of Love" by Don Armando's Secons Avenue Rhumba Band. The first package included a strong Original version with powerful vocals from the lead singer Nadine. It also came with great remixes by Groove Assasin and Kreap.

Our now is a second package including mixes from DJ Circle, Piers Kirwan and me - first available on Traxsource, more sites to follow soon. Make sure you check it out :)

Soulful House Vol. 25 (Classics Part II)

It's one more time to go back in time to the beginnings of Soulful House. I know there are a lot shows where you can hear all the new soulful stuff and many DJs spin it too. But it's good to know something about the history of the sound and where it came from.

Soulful House Vol. 24

So, let's get back to where we started from! I decided to put some classic Soulful House Mixes up in the next time beginning with this one.

The Soulful House genre came up in 1999 / 2000 when it developed from Vocal House and Garage House. Some of the pioneers were Mousse T., Boris Dlugosch, Urban Blues Project aka Jazz-N-Groove, Groove Junkies, Audiowhores, Pound Boys, Deep Swing and many more.

Revisited House Chapter 11 - Disco-House Classics 2

It has been almost a year since my last Mix from the Revisited House series and over 1 1/2 years since the last Disco-House Classics Mix.

Also - my blog turned 2 years last month - so it's about time to reveal THAT song you always hear in my mixes. Well, the voice drop mainly ;-)
It's one of my all-time favourite Disco-House tracks: Foreal People's Discotizer, produced by Joey Negro.

I bet that some of you have just discovered this genre through Armand van Helden's latest Disco-House project Duck Sauce. Well, this kinda sound - dominated by happy Disco samples and lots of filters - had its peaktime already about 12 years ago! Yes Baby, it rocked the floor like you dont know.

Revisited House Chapter 10 - 1998: The Vocal Club Hits

It's time for some of the best Vocal House club tunes that hit the scene in 1998 - the second part of our flashback into this year!

In 1998 Vocal House took over the dancefloors and became a constant style along with French House and Disco-House. No need to say that these styles got mixed all together very soon.

We have here some of the big players like Full Intention, Grant Nelson, Mousse T., Masters at Work and many more. Barbara Tucker's Everybody Dance is a brilliant Vocal meshup with The Don's Horn Song and along with GN's "Step 2 Me" my favourite here.

Revisited House Chapter 9 - 1998: From Paris To London

Back with some great songs which made history in 1998, this mix is the first one out of three and it's focused on French House and UK Underground tracks. So is the title "From Paris to London" altough we hit Germany or the Netherlands as well with some of the tracks...

Starting with a big club hit from Bob Sinclar who sampled Jane Fonda's fitness video and made it a very addictive hookline in this typical French House tune. Sampling old Disco sounds was characteristic for the tunes in this time as you can see in the following ones.

The second half takes it a bit more deeper to the UK Underground scene as the Garage House sound came up with its distinctive beats (and baselines) on the island.
The next Chapter will bring you some of the best Vocal-House tunes of 1998 - stay tuned.

Soulful House Vol. 11 - Funky and Soulful House

First i gotta say: This Mix is massive! I saved many of these tunes for the right time - now this is it!

Some tracks in here are really rare and hard to get - even today - because record companies don't see any need to make them available as a digital release. I have so many tracks i'm desperately after but they're still not available, lets hope they will be one day.

I love many tunes in this mix: Sami Dee's track U'R My Hero is wonderful and never gets boring - you can play it for years. Copyright's track Hold Me Tighter is just a promo as i know because it's a bootleg. Mutiny UK dropped some nice tunes in 1999 and 2000 while Joey Negro did an amazing mix of Fire Island's (aka Farley & Heller) Classic "There But For The Grace Of God" from 1993. Both sound still fresh!

Now Guy Robin is one of the hottest producer around - you can expect more of his tracks in the next mixes... Finally i gotta say that i truly love Nerio Dubwork's Remix of Richard Grey's great track You Can Run. The other mixes are great as well but Nerio (aka Nari + Milani) know how to groove it right.

Revisited House Chapter 8 - House Classics 1997

Our House chronicles continue with some big tunes from 1997. I remember that i couldn't get Sneak's burner "You Can't Hide Form Your Bud" out of my head for months - Disco samples had finally taken over the clubs.

1997 was the also time, when Speed Garage (or UK Underground) tracks were played in clubs but for this mix i choosed the House mixes of Todd Terry's "Something Goin' On" and Lisa Stansfield's "The Line". The same year DJ Tonka, Mousse T. and Boris Dlugosch took over the House scene in Germany with many great tracks and remixes.

I love Basement Jaxx' (aka Brix) Edit of The Heartists' Belo Horizonti which popular pendant was Bellini - Samba de Janeiro. Needless to say that Bellini covered that track (with addictive vocals though).

Revisited House Chapter 7 - House Classics 1996-1997

I was a quite short on time this month so i finished this mix a bit later than expected. I'm trying to get back to the rhythm of releasing about 3 mixes a month...

So, it was about time to continue our trip of re-visiting some great House Classics. This mix contiunes where the last one ended and shows you some of the hits and stomper of 1996 and 1997.

I can remember vividly when i was at the Loveparade in Berlin 1996 for the first time and Daft Punk's track blew my mind - and ears of course :) This was the time, when House Music started to get popular and got played even on television (just to name a few shows: Housefrau on VIVA TV or MTV Partyzone). A lot of people i know discovered this kind of music at that time and they still love hearing their favorite tracks.

Erick Morillo's track "Jazz it up" is still one of my alltime favs, it makes me smiling and start grooving everytime i hear it - for me it's one of the most underrated records from back in the days, DJs didn't play it much - but i remember Erick himself playing it in the Move Club here in Cologne in 1996 while the Popkomm was held.

Revisited House Chapter 6 - House Classics 1994 - 1996

It seems that House Classics are getting popular again. Recently i've heared many old tracks being played in different radio shows.
You can hear samples of these Classics in many new released songs and many Classics are put together and re-issued on compilations nowadays.

Well so i went through my collection and picked some of the most impressive songs from 1994 to 1996.
This was the time when House Music really got me and also gained popularity. You could see more House tracks played on video stations than today.

It's still hard to find some of these tracks, glad i had many of them already, but eBay is your friend, as long as they aren't buyable in digital form yet.
I know there are still some crackers missings like Daft Punk or Funky Green Dogs, they'll appear in the next mix for sure.

Speed Garage Classics (Bassline House)

This is it, my masterpiece so far! Speed Garage Classics, Anthem Style.
If you like Bassline House or warped bases like in Electro-House, you gotta check this out.

This Mix contains the greatest Anthems of the Speed Garage genre from 1997-1999.
If you have missed this wonderful time or/and want to look retrospectively at the sound, grab this Mix.
I did this one, because i wasn't satisfied with any mix i've had heared before, either with the track selection or the mixing style.

As you can see, most of the tracks were produced by 187 Lockdown, Loop da Loop or Armand van Helden - everyone of them has its own style but they sound really good in combination.
I know that the first tracks are a bit off the genre, but they came out in this time and contain some distinctive Speed Garage elements.

Revisited House Chapter 3 - Peaktime House Classics

After a while i choosed to pick again some tunes for the Revisited House series. Volume 3 will show you some of the hottest club tracks around the year 2000 that were played at peaktime hours. I guess that some of you guys are a bit younger or you just haven't listened to this music at that time, so... grab this mix and check out these classic House tunes!

As you see, some of these tracks are produced or remixed by BMR (Boris Dlugosch & Michi Lange), they were one of the hottest german team around at that time and did a lot for the House Music Scene, along with Mousse T, Wackside and other people.

In the next chapter(s) i will feature more tracks of the Deaf 'N Dumb Crew who's famous member is Sebastian Leger. With this project he did many great french Disco-House tunes before he turned to a more progressive style.
